About Our School
Over the past few years, Cesar Chavez Elementary School has become an environmentally friendly and healthy school. We have a very active gardening program, and students look forward to planting flowers and vegetables with their class every spring and harvesting the vegetables before school ends in the summer. In the colder months, students, parents, and community members complete other projects to improve the garden through events such as "Green Up Clean Up." An important initiative this year has been replacing and securing some of the wearing boards in our garden beds. Parent support and donations from community members have made this possible. Cesar Chavez also creates awareness through Earth Day celebrations every year. Students clean the school yard, the garden, and sort recycling materials. We also have strong recycling program which has raised awareness about paper and plastic waste among students and staff. Twice a week, collect recycling bins from all classrooms and bring them outside on recycling days. Finally, students are becoming healthier through trying new healthy snacks almost every afternoon, and dancing during our "Moving Minute" each morning. We are very proud of our students and staff for the initiative they take and the enthusiasm they show around improving the environment.
